We are now in a digital age where everyone saves their important files in computer, hard drive, Pen drive, flash drive and memory card. In my experienced if the antivirus detected the shortcut viruses in your flash drive or memory card the antivirus will delete all the shortcut folders/files and your original files will be hidden. What is shortcut virus and how it works? 

The shortcut virus is a virus that are very common now a days you can find it in computer shops (Internet cafe), Computer Library, Offices and even in your own computer or laptop. You will know that you are infected by shortcut virus if your files has an arrow which indicates that it is a shortcut.

This virus is very annoying because it will only duplicate your original files, and the duplicate files (second copy) will be converted into shortcut. So what happened to the original files? The original files are hidden sometimes in a "no name" folder and sometimes it is just hidden in your flash drive, memory card or computer.

How to delete shortcut virus form your hard drive, flash drive and memory card using CMD?
In this method we will only use CMD to unhidden and delete the shortcut virus. We need to execute a commands in CMD in order to fix the problem cause by shortcut virus.

Step 1. Go to Start and search for cmd, after the cmd.exe right click on it and click on "Run as Administrator"

Step 2. in the cmd window navigate to your flash drive by typing its drive letter. (let's say that the drive letter is i) then add colon after the i. like this i: and hit enter. 

You can go to "My Computer" to know what is the drive letter of your flash drive, hard drive or memory card.

Step 3. After typing i: Type this command  "del *.lnk" (without quote) and Hit Enter on your Keyboard.

Step 4. Now type "attrib -s -r -h *.* /s /d /l"  (without quote) and hit Enter on your keyboard.

Just wait a while and goto My Computer and open you flash drive, hard drive, or memory card. You will see that all your files are now back to normal and okay.

How to remove shortcut virus from your computer
Even if you know the method of removing shortcut virus. Its frustrating that every time you plug in your USB flash drive into infected  computer you will be infected again and again by shortcut virus. So its better to remove the source of the virus I mean remove the shortcut virus in that computer. Follow the steps below carefully.

Step 1. First open Task Manager. Right Click on taskbar and click on task manager.

Step 2. Go to Process tab and look for Wscript.exe,  try to scroll down to find it after you find that process, right click on it and click on End Task. 

Step 3. Now go to Start and search for “regedit” , open it you will get Registry Editor navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Run

Look for Registry Key “odwcamszas” if you found it then right click on it and delete that registry key.

Deleting the registry key will delete shortcut virus from your computer, If the shortcut virus is not deleted try this another method.

Step 1.  Press windows + R, type %temp% in the box and hit OK, now temp folder will be open look for file nkvasyoxww.vbs and delete it.

Step 2. Go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.  Check if there is nkvasyoxww.vbs exist in the startup folder If it exist then delete it.

Step 3. Go to start and type msconfing and open the msconfig.exe. Go to Startup tab, and look for nkvasyoxww.vbs unchecked it from startup and hit OK.

In Windows 8 or Windows 10. Open the Task Manager and go to startup tab, disable nkvasyoxww.vbs by clicking on it and click the Disable button
